It was my own stupid fault. The ONLY other guy on the beach had come in
(line trouble) and I asked him for a launch. He said he'd see how I was
doing in the gusty wind and I replied, 'Oh don't look at me, I'm rubbish as
I've not long been doing this'. WRONG! The guy then refused to launch me. I
protested that I'd been out in much worse and I wasn't really that bad, but
it all fell on deaf ears. I got REALLY annoyed as I really had been out in
a lot worse, but this guy would not let me take responsibility for my own
decision. 'I've been doing this over two years, you know' he added.
Note to self: Never joke about your ability, big it up instead.
Eventually another guy showed up who agreed to launch me, and asked if he
could borrow my pump. No problem!
Once on the water it was GREAT! No problems at all. I still find the heavy
waves a bit hard going but the lagoon filled up, so I had a good hour or
more on flat water at the end. I was out for over 2.5 hours... Mr 'expert'
gave up after 15 minutes. I ended up back where I started. The Expert ended
up walking upwind.
Did a few jumps off waves and landed ok (WOO-HOO!) and managed a few turns,
albeit on flatwater.
Finished off exhausted but stoked, to find my pump had been abandoned on
the next beach and was now broken.
Camber: superb beach, but I don't think I'll bother with the social side.
